Green Smoothie – The Powerhouse

Green Smoothies are so rich, I swear. They give you this satiated feeling for hours. And so so refreshing. This smoothie that I made was from one of the recipes of my forever favorite Chef Jamie Oliver. Added a couple of additional ingredients to add more nutrients and richness. It has fresh apple juice, baby spinach, and banana. I additionally added homemade almond butter (for the luxurious tinge), flax seeds, chia seeds, spinach and ginger juice. And woah. This for sure has now become my magic potion for instant energy!

Now lets get down to the benefits it has to offer through its powerhouse ingredients!

1. Almond Butter
It is abundantly rich in Magnesium. Magnesium is an essential mineral for staying healthy and is required for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. Multiple health benefits of magnesium include transmission of nerve impulses, body temperature regulation, detoxification, energy production, and the formation of healthy bones and teeth. It promotes healthy pregnancy, relieves stress and anxiety, improves collagen production, relieves migraine, cramps and back pain, boosts energy production in the body, regulates blood sugar levels. Almond butter is rich in source of Vitamin E.

2. Spinach
It’s dense in nutrients like Vitamin A, E, K, Magnesium, Zinc, Fiber, and Protein.It helps in lowering cholestrol and blood pressure. Increases brain functioning, healthy vision, fights infection and prevents cancer. It is dense in flavonoids and folate.

3. Chia and Flax Seeds
Rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, high in calcium, heart friendly food, controls hypertension, improves gastrointestinal health, keeps weight under control, lowers cholesterol levels, densely rich in anti inflammatory properties, helps in regulating blood sugar levels.

Here’s the quick recipe of this Green Smoothie adapted from renowned Chef Jamie Oliver with minor additions of couple of ingredients.

Ingredients:

1 Banana
1 tbsp Flaxseed
2 tsps Chia Seeds
250ml Fresh Apple Juice
Handful Spinach chopped
1 tbsp heap Almond Butter
1/4th cup fresh Spinach and Ginger Juice

Method:

Throw all the ingredients in a blender and blend them to bring to the table one of the most luxurious experience of rich smoothie.

The Power Hours. EMF Radiations. And Cancer.

The hours of replenishing the energy, restoring peace, and reconnecting the most powerful entities of our massive system, the heart, mind and soul.

One of my recent browsing landed me towards a research that needs the most heed in this point of time. In 1980, fewer than 3% of people had a cell phone. Today, almost 100% of people carry one on their bodies every waking moment of the day. Cancer is on the rise, but can we directly attribute this to our beloved smart phones and wifi routers? EMF radiation from modern technology is preventing our bodies from curing cancer by inhibiting the release of our pineal gland’s life-saving hormone, melatonin!

Melatonin secretes only at night because that’s when our brain repairs all the cells in the body. Each day, our body loses half a billion cells. At night, our body replaces them through a process of cell mitosis. Free radicals are created as a byproduct of this cell mitosis. These free radical cells attack healthy cells. It is universally agreed that the free radical cell is the major factor in cancer. Our body’s best defense against them is melatonin.

Melatonin is considered by the medical world to be an oncostatic agent (meaning it protects against cancer) and it controls the sleep/wake cycle so that you get a good nights sleep. It’s an anti-aging molecule that leaves your skin younger and it mops up cancer cells while you sleep. Win-win… if you’re producing it!

Cutums, born in a tech age, is definitely under the influence of this tech network. I don’t ask you, or him to break the chain, but I do believe in disconnecting from this devised network for a while. Oftener than often. The only way to disconnect is to switch off all your devices that send/receive signals and hibernate in the lap of mother nature. Breathe in. Breathe out. Expel the toxicity out of your system and surrender in the arms of mother nature.

Aren’t you curious to find out what secret ingredients rests inside this Magical Concoction! Well, ending the suspense right here.

*Tada*  It comprises of Cinnamon, Honey, Lemon and Warm Water.

Why I consume this? Well, the health benefits it has are endless to justify my reasoning for consuming this. I had been weak in terms of immunity, since I was a kid. Pneumonia, Asthma, Eczema, and many such health issues have accompanied me throughout this life span I had. Allopathic Medicine subsided the problems temporarily. And in the process of doing so, it gave rise to several other health problems as the medicinal side effects. This time, I found satisfying responses in alternative medicine. I will discuss this aspect in some other post. For now, lets quickly review the benefits you can yield from these power-packed ingredients.

Rich & Dark Chocolate Brownie – The Exquisite Indulgence

This, has finally made to the table is definitely an achievement for a mindful eater like me. I like to eat as healthy as I possibly can. I try. I don’t always eat healthy, but yes eating right tops my priority list for sure. After liver and spleen detox that I have undergone, much of my sugary cravings have subsided. And mind you, sugary cravings is no healthy sign, which I just found out much later after I had to undergo a cortisone treatment for Asthmatic Bronchitis. Just then I realized what I really have to do with my life! Surely, this illness was a blessing in disguise that has directed me towards Alternative Medicine. And here I am, living sane and happy with the practices from Naturopathy, Aromatherapy, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and my favorite herbal science Tib-e-Nabvi (SAW).

TCM believes that sugary cravings are due to Spleen Qi Deficiency. A mild craving for sugary stuff after a meal is understandable and perfectly okay. A mild sweet stuff after a meal aids in digestion but craving for sugar 24/7 is an abnormal bodily response, an evident sign there’s something wrong inside your system that needs to be fixed. So yes, for now lets cut it short and sneak peak into the quick recipe of my healthy, and royal dessert.

The recipe has been adapted from Cookie and Kate.

INGREDIENTS:
  • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1¼ cups pure cane sugar
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon coffee
  • 2 eggs
  • 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ⅔ cup whole wheat flour
  • Lindt 90% cacao Dark Chocolate grated (1 large square that makes roughly 2 ounces)
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease the baking tray.
  2. Melt the butter in a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat. Cook the butter, while whisking constantly, until it’s a pale golden brown and the particles suspended in it are reddish brown.
  3. Add the brown sugar. Stir it constantly. Then further add the cocoa powder, salt, baking powder and coffee. Stir until the ingredients are thoroughly mixed.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating vigorously with a wooden spoon. When the mixture looks thick, shiny and well blended, add the vanilla extract and finally add the whole wheat flour. Stir until dissolved. Then beat vigorously with a wooden spoon.
  5. Add the grated dark chocolate and mix it well.
  6. Spread the batter in the baking tray, then use a knife to make light swirls in the top of the batter. Bake for about 25 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Enjoy the-made-with-love brownie.

NOTE: If you feel the batter is way too thick, you can add milk to make it slightly flowy.

Avocado-Banana Smoothie – The Powerhouse

THIS SOOTHIE SMOOTHIE is a powerhouse, satisfying breakfast, tropical tasting drink to jumpstart a summerish day, densely rich in nutrients and not to forget the best part, easy-peezy!

Dump everything in the blender. Simply blend them together. And there you are good to go! I used three bananas and an avocado for 2.5 glasses of milk.

Health Benefits of Avocado:

Alpha-linolenic acid (an omega-3 fatty acid) and oleic acid are key fats provided by avocado. Avocados are a good source of pantothenic acid, dietary fiber, vitamin K, copper, folate, vitamin B6, potassium, vitamin E, and vitamin C. It is known to relieve arthritis symptoms, promotes weight loss, lowers cholesterol, improves heart health and reduces eye related problems. It is also known to reduce the risk of certain cancers.
